'Messi could be 80 and still be the best in MLS': Ex-Villarreal forward Rossi

Former Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi has weighed in on Lionel Messi's legacy at Major Soccer League.

"If you look at him on the pitch, he could be 80 years old and still be the best player on the field in the MLS. Everyone loves to see him because he is the greatest of all time," he told DAZN candidly.

"If you look at the TV rights and the merchandise it has skyrocketed [with his signing], everything is going just as they [Inter Miami] planned it.

"The problem is that when he's done and he wants to hang up his boots, who is going to fill that void in the MLS? I feel like that is going to be a big problem."

Indeed, before Leo arrived in Florida in the summer of 2023, MLS had its share of stars, but none of them came close to the Argentine icon – with perhaps only David Beckham being up there in terms of impact.

So filling Messi's shoes after the 36-year-old actually decides to retire won't be an easy task for the American league.
