Real Madrid won't be crowned La Liga champions this weekend - explained

Real Madrid travel to Granada this weekend but will not be presented with the La Liga title at the end of that fixture.

They will instead be handed the trophy the following day behind closed doors at their Valdebebas training ground.

Granada are in a relegation battle and will officially go down on Saturday if they fail to beat the Spanish champions.

As a result, with relegation all but guaranteed for the hosts, Los Merengues and the RFEF agreed not to stage the award ceremony at Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes out of respect for the home fans.

Instead, Ancelotti's men will be handed the title, the club's 36th in history, the following day before celebrating this achievement at the famous Cibeles fountain, as per tradition.

The Spanish champions will present the trophy to their home supporters on Tuesday when they host Deportivo Alaves in the league.
