'Holy smokes!': Why Kobbie Mainoo's Liverpool demolition is scary for rivals

ESPN pundit Craig Burley couldn't help marvel at Kobbie Mainoo during an analysis of Manchester United's 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final.

While dissecting Mainoo's performance, Burley said: "Can I just have a little word quickly on Kobbie Mainoo? Holy smokes!

"We’ve seen it this season, he was injured at the start of the season, but we’ve seen it in patches, particularly recently.

"Young Kobbie Mainoo playing against three internationals [vs Liverpool] – one’s won a World Cup in [Alexis] Mac Allister, one’s the Hungarian captain in [Dominik] Szoboszlai, and the other one, [Wataru] Endo, plays for his country, Japan.

"And here we have a teenager on the ball as if he’s got 300 games for Man United. It’s quite scary."

Mainoo has enjoyed a spectacular breakthrough this season, establishing himself as a regular starter.

He was particularly impressive against Liverpool as he orchestrated things from the deep to pull off one of the best Man United wins in recent times.
