Klopp reveals where Nunez has to improve as he discusses Tottenham goal - explained

As he was discussing the only goal Liverpool conceded in the win over Tottenham, Jurgen Klopp has pointed out that Darwin Nunez will have to improve defensively, using the build-up to that goal as an example.

"It was a big blow, an unnecessary goal," Klopp told Sky Sports after Liverpool's 2-1 win.

"It was a great pass from Kulusevski. He comes on and bing-bong and here we go!

"It’s difficult but you have to defend that’s how it is, you have to defend the half spaces, the wings.

"Darwin he’s a massive threat offensively. Defensively there’s still space for improvement.

"He’s on top of that it’s super intense for him, but he’s only one moment too late and Dier steps in and the next ball is in the box."

The replay of the goal shows what Klopp might have in mind.

The pass goes to Dier on the right flank, but Nunez is not in a hurry to apply pressure

When Darwin did approach the Spurs player, he was not positioned to cut the passing lane to Doherty who was absolutely free further forward

Nunez went on to jog alongside Doherty who was able to find Kulusevski in a pocket of space, with the winger proceeding to provide an assist for Kane's goal
