'A systemic error': Former La Liga referee hits out at Gil Manzano over horrendous officiating

Former La Liga referee Mateu Lahoz believes Gil Manzano made a mockery of all his experience with his mistake in the game between Real Madrid and Valencia.

"What is worrying is that he [Gil Manzano] is a referee with experience," Lahoz said.

"They try to follow some guidelines and it is worrying that someone who has been there for 11 years, who everything indicates is going to be our representative in the next Euro Cup, who has been on the RFEF delegate commission since 2016, you can imagine the issues that are discussed there.

"It is a matter of understanding football, it is a systematic error, like the one in Valladolid last season. It is a question of total concept, of ignorance of the game. What happens is that we have too much ego,"

"The penalty awarded to Hugo Duro had occurred at 90:25. If we compare the injury time of the first half, which was five minutes with three goals and in the second half there were 7," Lahoz added.

Manzano seemed set on ensuring that Real Madrid didn't win that game. First, he awarded a late penalty to Valencia that was overturned by VAR. Then he blew the final whistle when the ball was already in flight in the attacking phase.

Thus, Jude Bellingham was denied a winning goal on his return and was shown a red card to add salt to injury.
