Loris Karius set to be in goal for Newcastle in Carabao Cup final after Nick Pope receives stupidest red card

Newcastle United suffered a major blow in their Premier League clash against Liverpool on Saturday.

With the Magpies losing 2-0 in the first half, goalkeeper Nick Pope got himself foolish sent off.

He handled the ball outside the box after foolishly coming off his line in an attempt to stop Mo Salah from scoring.

The sending off will rule him out for the next three games.

As a result, he will miss Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final against Man United next week.

Red cards received in the Premier League carry on to domestic competitions, meaning he’ll be suspended for the final.

Martin Dubravka – who was recalled by Newcastle in January – filled in for Pope against Liverpool. But he will not be eligible to play against the Red Devils.

Dubravka is cup-tied because he played for Man United in the competition earlier on. As a result, Newcastle will need to play their third goalkeeper, which is…..Loris Karius!

Indeed, the ex-Liverpool goalkeeper is seemingly their only available senior no.1 and is now poised to start the final.

Here's how some fans reacted on Reddit.

One wrote: "Misses the league cup final I feel for him even though it was braindead."

"What is blud doin," another added.

One more said: "My Brother in Christ, you can use your feet. Second time he's done this."
