The first half of the return leg against Atalanta gave Liverpool a glimmer of hope. It could've been even bigger if the referee had been a bit stricter with Atalanta players.
One episode stands out: as a long-ball pass from the deep was set to release Luis Diaz on a one-on-one with Juan Musso, Atalanta centre-back Isak Hien stopped it with his hand — and it looked very deliberate.
Hien was only given a yellow card, but plenty of Liverpool fans argue it should've been a red for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
This Is Anfield: "Strange (weak) call from the ref as a deliberate handball stops a clear one-on-one for Diaz. Only a yellow."
Empire of the Kop: "Is that not the denial of a goalscoring opportunity... might be a harsh red... but it should be a red, no?"
DB: "Guess anything goes in Europa. Guy (last man too) stopped the ball with his arm and is still somehow on the pitch"
Samuel: "Last man. Hand changes direction of the ball against Luis Diaz path. Intentional. Not a red card apparently…"
Moby: "This referee is perfect for Premier League"
DaveOCKOP: "The only good thing about that handball is that we didn't have to see another big chance missed."
