'It is about killing the product': Head of PFA backs Klopp's plea over fixture congestion and player health

Jurgen Klopp has been the most vocal voice in football about the need for a reduced number of games to alleviate the stress put on players' bodies.

He has now garnered support from the head of the Professional Footballers' Association Maheta Molango, who has spoken at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit.

He cited Kevin De Bruyne's injury in the Champions League final as one of the big examples of fixture overload taking a toll on the players.

“(De Bruyne going off) is surely not what we want to see," he said. "The Champions League final is supposed to be our Super Bowl.

“It wasn’t because one of the best players in the world, De Bruyne, was out in the 30th minute; (Erling) Haaland was exhausted.

"Rodri, who is a top athlete, said after 60 minutes he had cramps.

"For us, we’ve reached a stage where it is not just about the health of the player, it is about us killing the product.”
