Why Kelleher appears set to remain Liverpool's second-choice keeper for another year - explained

Caoimhin Kelleher was heavily rumoured to be on his way out of Liverpool this summer.

The 24-year-old has been the Reds' No.2 keeper for years and is willing to play more regularly - which is impossible with Alisson as the first choice.

Kelleher had no shortage of suitors, with Tottenham, Brentford and Brighton all looking for a change in their goalkeeping departments.

However, all clubs have already replaced their departed keepers - and for a lesser fee than Kelleher's £20m value.

Spurs signed Guglielmo Vicario (£17.2m), Brentford have secured Mark Flekken (£11m), while Brighton have won the race for Bart Verbruggen (£16.3m).

Wolves were also credited with an interest in Kelleher - but they are asset-stripping, parting ways with their manager with five days to go before the season, making a move for the goalkeeper unlikely.

It means that unless a new suitor for Kelleher emerges - and it can't be completely ruled out before the transfer window closes on September 1 - the Irishman looks set to stay at Anfield for another season.
