James Pearce: A left-back deputy signing depends on how much faith Klopp has in Yasser Larouci

Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Everton at Goodison Park in what was a very average showing by the champions-elect.

The absence of left-back Andy Robertson was definitely felt by the Reds, as neither James Milner nor Joe Gomez were able to perform well at the position.

After the game, a user on The Athletic asked Liverpool correspondent James Pearce: "Any chance of left-back backup for Robbo in the summer?"

Pearce replied: "It has been discussed. I think it needs to be addressed. To a large extent, it depends on whether Klopp has sufficient faith in [Yasser] Larouci to step up next season."

Talks of signing a left-back have been going on since last summer, as the Reds have no real deputy to fill in for Robbo and Milner has been doing the job whenever needed.

Luckily, Robertson has not been injured for long - he has played 7,801 of a possible 8,370 minutes in the past two seasons, or 93.2 per cent. But as this game showed, his absence is felt by the Reds and a makeshift left-back cannot cut it against better teams.

Larouci has impressed youth coaches but has yet to make a significant impact on the first team.

Do you think the 19-year-old deserves a bench spot next season, or should the Reds look into the transfer market for a backup? Let us know your thoughts!
