Wolves have denied reports that their players are involved in an alleged rape case.
Two 19-year-old players from the same club were arrested and later released on bail after being questioned by the police. The club of the footballers has not commented on the allegations.
A police spokesperson confirmed the arrests, stating that one player was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding a rape, while the other was arrested on suspicion of rape. Due to all the online speculation, Wolves decide to release a statement.
The statement read: "A newspaper article published yesterday has triggered inappropriate online speculation over the identities of two individuals reportedly under police investigation.
"Whilst we would not typically comment on ongoing police matters, in order to protect the welfare of our young players, we feel it is necessary to confirm that the allegations to not relate to anyone at Wolves."
According to The Sun, the club has suspended the two players involved in the incident. The alleged rape reportedly occurred on Friday night, and the victim is said to have contacted the police a few hours later to file a formal complaint.
