What happened to 5 players Ronald Koeman tipped as 'future of FC Barcelona'

When he was Barca's coach, Ronald Koeman made a daring prediction about five youngsters.

"We're proud to bring in young homegrown players. It's not because the fans want that, it's because these players deserve it," Koeman said.

"Players like Pedri, Ilaix Moriba, Riqui Puig, Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingueza are the future of this club," the Dutch tactician added.

Fast forward to three years since Koeman's prediction, we can only name two of those players who are still important at Barca.

Pedri – made it. Despite suffering several injury setbacks, Pedri remains an important player at Barca.

Araujo – made it. The Uruguay has suddenly become error-prone this season but we can call it a one-off campaign. He remains integral at Barca and is one of the club captains.

Mingueza – avoided relegation with Celta. The Spaniard never really seemed like Barca's quality. The club shipped him to Celta months after Koeman left where he hasn't attracted any attention.

Moriba – left for money. The Guinean left Barca after being offered less money than he hoped. His career has drifted since then with spells in Valencia and Getafe after being sold to Leipzig

Puig – never rated by Xavi. The Spanish midfielder showed signs of the brilliance of Iniesta and the guile of Xavi, but the Barca gaffer never saw himself in the youngster. Puig was shipped to the MLS where he has shown enough brilliance to demand a return to Europe.
